Vortex shedding flow meter

A vortex shedding flow meter is a device used to measure the flow of fluids, typically liquids or gases, in various industrial processes. This type of flow meter operates based on the principle of vortex shedding, which involves the creation of alternating vortices (swirling patterns of fluid) behind a bluff body placed in the flow stream.

In a vortex shedding flow meter, a bluff body, often a cylinder or a strut, is strategically positioned in the fluid stream. As the fluid flows past the bluff body, it alternately generates vortices on either side. The frequency of vortex shedding is directly proportional to the fluid velocity. Sensors detect these vortices, and by measuring the frequency, the flow rate of the fluid can be accurately determined.

Vortex shedding flow meters are known for their versatility, as they can be used in a wide range of applications, including but not limited to, water treatment, HVAC systems, and industrial process control. They offer advantages such as minimal pressure loss, suitability for a variety of fluids, and reliability in measuring flow rates.
